When the Body Sends Signals

Share Article

Training and physical activity are essential parts of a young athlete’s development. Equally important, however, is learning to recognise when the body needs rest or additional attention.

Unusual or persistent fatigue, ongoing pain, discomfort, reduced motivation to train or difficulty with everyday activities are signs that should not be ignored. Continuing to train despite discomfort is not necessarily a sign of strength or commitment.

Communication plays an important role. Children should feel comfortable telling their parents and coaches when something does not feel right. Recognising a potential problem early can help prevent further strain or complications.

Rest is also a natural and necessary part of athletic development. The body needs time to recover and adapt to the demands placed upon it through training.

At STRIPES, we want our athletes to learn not only how to train, compete and give their best, but also how to listen to their bodies. Health is always the foundation for a long-term and enjoyable sporting journey.
